EAST MEADOW, N.Y. - The eighth-seeded Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team lost to No. 1 Long Island University, 3-2, on Friday during game one of a three-game New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) Tournament quarterfinal series in Northwell Health Ice Center.

THE ACTION

• Kearns gave LIU the lead just 2:21 after opening faceoff, but Langbacka struck for the tying marker 1:38 later.
• The Sharks scored twice late in the second period, as Morrow made it 2-1 with 15:41 gone before Wallner added to the lead at 18:04.
• LeBlanc cut the deficit to a single goal at 11:27 of the third period.
• Lavender vacated the net for an extra attacker with 53 seconds to go, but a Ruiz bid that missed the net with 26 seconds left was only the attempt by the visitors down the stretch.
