HAVERHILL, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team opened its season with a pair of non-league losses to Northeast-10 Conference counterpart Saint Anselm College, 18-7 and 5-2, on Sunday at Trinity Stadium.

THE ACTION
- Playing the visiting team, the Purple Knights scored twice in the top of the first inning and twice more in the third around the Hawks' three-run opening frame. Gilboy picked up an RBI to key each inning, while Ryan's two-run triple was the big blow in Saint Anselm's first.
- Elmore led off the fourth inning with a tying solo home run, and the Hawks scored nine runs on five hits and two errors the following frame to go ahead. Elmore added a two-run single and Howrigan a three-run double.
- Kolifrath's two-out, two-run double highlighted a three-run sixth that brought Saint Michael's within 13-7, but the Hawks plated five more runs between the home half and seventh inning.

THE ACTION
- The visiting Hawks plated an unearned run on Clough's RBI single in the top of the first, but Saint Michael's tied the game on Moynihan's RBI groundout in the second.
- Balian led off the fourth with a triple before Cavossa drove the next pitch for a go-ahead sac fly, and the Purple Knights took the 2-1 lead into the latter stages.
- Williams came through with the tying RBI single in the seventh before Dow's groundout scored the eventual winning run. Williams was hit by a pitch with two down and the bases loaded in the eighth to make it 4-2.
- Howrigan added a ninth-inning sac fly for the final margin.
- The Purple Knights put only one runner on base over the final five innings, when Kolifrath was plunked leading off the sixth.
