Women's Basketball Downed by Regionally-Ranked Golden Knights

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's basketball team lost to regionally-ranked The College of Saint Rose, 76-35, on Wednesday during Northeast-10 Conference play in the Ross Sports Center. The Golden Knights were fourth in this week's D2CSC East Region poll and also received votes toward the D2CSC national poll while leading Division II in scoring defense.

THE ACTION
  • The Golden Knights started the game on an 18-3 run, shooting 7-for-10 as a team and led by 10 points from Graber.
  • Talbot made a lay-up for the Purple Knights at 1:25 of the opening quarter, then stole the ball and scored on a fast break at 1:07 to make the score 18-7.
  • The Golden Knights created space with nine points in the opening 2:40 of the second quarter while Furch scored four during that span for the Purple and Gold.
  • The Purple Knights knocked down shots beyond the arc at 7:04 by Blake and at 6:24 by Brophy to cut the visitors' lead to 10 at 27-17.
  • The Golden Knights ended the second stanza on an 11-4 run in the final 5:51 on 5-for-7 shooting from the field, making the score 38-21 heading into the locker rooms.  
  • Brophy knocked down a three-pointer following Mahoney's opening basket of the third quarter, but the Golden Knights scored the final 25 points of the third quarter.
  • The Purple Knights began the fourth quarter on a 7-3 run that included two shots from deep from Franchi at 9:21 and Brophy at 8:01.
