SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team opened a New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) weekend series with a 2-0 loss to Saint Anselm College on Friday evening in Cairns Arena.

THE ACTION
  • Saint Anselm took the lead at 16:06 of the opening period, as Martin spun in the slot and slipped a shot past Lavender's left pad during a power play.
  • Lavender prevented the Hawks from doubling the lead with 6:05 gone in the second, denying a close-range bid from junior Audrey Jackson, who had gotten behind the defense.
  • At 8:29, Weber kicked home Saint Anselm's second strike, cleaning up a rebound of senior Natalie Tulchinsky's saved shot.
  • Sophomore Lauren Fisher (Rothesay, New Brunswick/Rothesay Netherwood School) tipped a shot in the slot into Stagman at 15:15 for a good look by the Purple Knights.
  • Around 4:40 of the third period, Gerebi was turned away by Stagman's blocker save, had a rebound blocked by a Hawk skater, and put a third shot on Stagman's right pad.
  • Twenty seconds later at the other end, Lavender made a blocker stop of first-year Julianna Herman's blast from the slot.
  • Senior Mikaela Langbacka (Lorton, Va./Washington Pride) had a pair of good looks in the final frame, both through screens, ringing the crossbar at 7:30 before Stagman got the tip of her glove on Langbacka's try from the left circle with 14:17 gone.
  • Gerebi's slap shot was turned away by Stagman's blocker denial at 17:51, and junior Angelina Ruiz (Independence, Minn./Gentry Academy) had a follow-up backhanded bid stopped at the left post.
