MARS HILL, N.C. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team defeated Mars Hill University, 7-6, on Friday at Henderson Field. Junior Trent Balian (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield/Worcester State) and sophomore Ryan Canty (Shelburne, Vt./Champlain Valley Union) picked up their first career win and save, respectively.

THE ACTION

• The Lions scored in the bottom of the opening frame when James drove in two runs on a two-out single through the right side.
• The Purple and Gold cut the deficit in half in the top of the second inning when Arsenault reached on a fielder's choice and Gilboy came in to score.
• Putnam drove in a run for the Lions in the home half of the third inning after reaching on a fielder's choice, making the score 3-1.
• The hosts added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth after Weaver hit a solo home run to center and Potts doubled to right to drive in Yount.
• Gilboy was plunked with the bases loaded in the top of the fifth inning to bring home Sevigny and make the score 5-2.
• Gilboy doubled in the seventh to drive in the first run of the inning for the Purple Knights before Moynihan singled home a run and Arsenault knocked a two-run single to give the visitors the lead at 6-5.
• Evan Balian added an insurance run in the eighth inning on a single that drove in Tetta.
• Weaver hit his second home run of the game in the bottom of the eighth to cut the Purple Knights' lead to 7-6.
• Putnam singled with two down in the bottom of the ninth, but Canty retired the last batter of the game via a fly out to right prevent the comeback.
