Baseball Downs Saint Anselm to Win Weekend Series, Lanthier Becomes Steals King

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Senior Andrew Lanthier (Orwell, Vt./Fair Haven Union) became the Saint Michael's College baseball team's all-time steals leader on Saturday, helping the Purple Knights down Saint Anselm College, 9-4, to capture the three-game Northeast-10 Conference weekend series at Doc Jacobs Field.

  • Lanthier moved out of a tie with Brian Rayder '93 (36) for the program record in steals and now has 39 for his career.
THE ACTION
  • Dow's two-out RBI single gave the Hawks a 1-0 edge in the top of the first inning.
  • In the home half, Kolifrath doubled home a pair before Kinsella added a two-out RBI knock.
  • Kinsella ripped a two-run single in the third before first-year Dom Tetta's (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) two-out RBI double made it 6-1.
  • The lead swelled to 7-1 thanks to Kinsella's sac fly in the fifth.
  • Saint Anselm got two back in the sixth, with Dow driving home a run, and sophomore Shea Howrigan's RBI single the following frame cut the deficit to 7-4. With the bases loaded and no one out, Safer averted further damage with a strikeout and a pair of fly balls.
  • Kinsella added insurance with an RBI single in the bottom half, when first-year Richard Gilboy (South Portland, Maine/South Portland) also scored on a wild pitch.
