Simonson Reaches 100-Point Threshold, Men's Lacrosse 3-0 After Win Over D'Youville

CORTLAND, N.Y. - Junior Sebastian Simonson (Spruce Grove, Alberta/Spruce Grove Composite) became the 24th Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse player to net 100 career points, tallying seven on Friday in an 18-4 victory over D'Youville University under the lights at Cortland High School. The Purple and Gold was tied for fourth in the latest New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) poll.

  • Wilson, who just passed Jeff Disa '02 (266) for second in program history in career faceoffs last game, pushed his total to 276. Wilson has 167 career ground balls and vaulted past three alums on Friday to take over fifth in that category.
  • Grillone moved into a three-way tie for sixth in program history with 53 career caused turnovers, matching Brian Devilly '16 and Neil Gallagher '18. Grillone also reached the 100-ground ball plateau during the contest.

THE ACTION
  • Six different Purple Knights scored in the opening quarter, as Saint Michael's led 3-0 by the time 3:39 had elapsed. The Saints tallied a man-up goal at 9:02, from Gonzalez, for their lone tally in the period.
  • After Sholett made it 6-2 at 13:36 of the second frame, the Purple and Gold scored the next nine goals, keeping D'Youville off the board for 28:55, until Evan's man-up strike 19 seconds into the fourth quarter.
  • In that 9-0 stretch, Simonson posted three goals and three assists, Hughes scored twice, and Clark and Murphy both turned in a goal and a helper.
