GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team lost both games in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader against Adelphi University, 12-7 and 5-1 in seven innings, on Wednesday at Bonomo Field.

THE ACTION
  • The Purple Knights jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning, when junior Max Kolifrath (Millbury, Mass./Millbury) drove in a run on a fielder's choice and Gilboy followed with a three-run home run to right field.
  • Cavossa drove in Arsenault on a fielder's choice in the top of the second inning to extend the lead to five for the Purple and Gold.
  • The Panthers tacked on two runs in the bottom half of the inning on RBI hits from Ramos and first-year Erick Duignan to make the score 5-2.
  • Adelphi tied the game in the home half of the third inning after Ramos drove in two more runs on his second double of the afternoon and Eden reached on a fielder's choice that scored Pellegrino.
  • Rigogliosi's RBI single in the fourth put the hosts ahead, and Eden's RBI double made it 7-5 the following inning.
  • Saint Michael's scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game at seven when Arsenault singled through the left side to bring Moynihan and Gilboy around to score.
  • Adelphi responded in the bottom half of the inning by regaining the two-run lead on Pellegrino's RBI triple and first-year Michael Robinson's sacrifice fly.
  • The Panthers added another run in the bottom of the seventh and two more insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth to extend the lead to 12-7.

THE ACTION
  • Two squads combined for only one base runner in the first two and a half innings.
  • The Panthers notched the first two runs of the contest in the bottom of the third inning after Rigogliosi drew a walk with the bases loaded and Maag hit a sacrifice fly to right field to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead.
  • The Purple and Gold cut the lead in half in the top of the fourth on Cavossa's RBI single to right center that brought Lanthier around to score from second base.
  • Adelphi pulled ahead in the fifth inning by scoring three runs on three hits and one error to make the score 5-1, with Pellegrino's fielder's choice scoring a run and Ramos adding a two-run single.
