Simonson and Woods Earn USA Lacrosse All-America Accolades

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse May graduate Nathan Woods (Ottawa, Ontario/Kent School) and rising senior Sebastian Simonson (Spruce Grove, Alberta/Spruce Grove Composite) were both named USA Lacrosse All-America honorable mentions on Wednesday.

The duo joins Derek Rynne '93 (1993), Mark Agostinelli '08 (2007) and Will Moriarty '20 (2020) as the only All-Americans in program annals, with Rynne and Agostinelli landing United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) honorable mentions and Moriarty placing on the Inside Lacrosse second team.

Simonson was among 19 attackmen named All-America, with nine earning spots across three teams and another 10 receiving honorable mention status. He was one of four from the Northeast-10 Conference. Woods is one of nine short-stick defensive midfielders honored, but is among only two NE10 selections, with six claiming honorable mentions. Simonson and Woods also earned NE10 All-Conference first team nods last month.

Woods, who was a New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) All-New England pick as a junior, totaled 13 goals, 20 points, 22 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers as a key to his team's transition game this spring. He had six multi-point outings and tallied in all but one game, and had such standout performances as one goal, three ground balls and three caused turnovers against Roberts Wesleyan University and one assist, three ground balls and two caused turnovers versus No. 10 Pace University.

An NEILA All-New England pick last year after claiming NE10 All-Rookie Team laurels in 2022, Simonson is second in the NE10 in points per game, fourth in goals per game, and fifth in assists per game. He notched 59 points, 37 goals and 22 assists this spring, totaling the most goals by a Purple Knight since 2012 and the most points since 2013. Simonson heads into his senior year fifth in program history in both career points (145) and goals (98). He notched at least four points nine times, including four goals and two assists in a 12-11 win over Southern New Hampshire University, two goals and four assists in a 15-13 win at Assumption University, five points against No. 14 Bentley University on April 9, seven points versus No. 10 Pace, and a hat trick in a 15-13 win at No. 7 Saint Anselm College.

Simonson and Woods contributed to the Purple Knights' best season in 11 years, as they were 9-5 overall and 6-3 in NE10 play, tying for fourth in the conference while regularly earning votes toward the USILA national poll. Saint Michael's earned the No. 5 seed in the NE10 Championship thanks to such season highlights as defeating Saint Anselm, the seventh-ranked team in the nation, on its home field, 15-13, on April 17.
