Men's Lacrosse Quartet Honored as USILA All-North Region

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse May graduate Sean Murphy (Medway, Mass./Medway), rising senior Taylor Wiercinski (Groton, Mass./Lawrence Academy), and rising juniors Matt O'Donnell (Marshfield, Mass./Cardinal Spellman) and Noah Poirier (Dalton, Mass./Wahconah Regional) landed United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-North Region honorable mentions on Tuesday. All secured their first career all-region accolades.

Murphy broke out for career highs in goals (29) and points (41) from the attack despite missing three games. He also tied a career high with 14 caused turnovers. Murphy keyed the Purple Knights' deep postseason run by scoring at least one goal in 12 of his 13 games. He potted four goals in consecutive games at No. 2 Saint Anselm College and No. 19 Assumption University on April 1 and 4, respectively, and netted a hat trick during a 13-9 Senior Day victory over No. 20 Bentley University on April 18. Murphy collected five goals and an assist in a 10-9 overtime loss at No. 16 Assumption in a Northeast 10 Conference Championship first-round game on April 25 before notching two goals and two assists in a 9-8 win at No. 3 Saint Anselm in an NCAA Championship first-round affair on May 10. During an NCAA quarterfinal loss at No. 11 Molloy University three days later, Murphy scored three times, finishing his career with 91 points, including 90 over 40 games in his final three seasons.

Also an NE10 All-Conference third team pick, O'Donnell contributed as a short-stick defensive midfielder, keying the Purple and Gold's transition game and faceoff unit by scooping 46 ground balls and causing 10 turnovers. He had at least one ground ball in every contest, nabbing five apiece against No. 17 Southern New Hampshire University on March 21 and No. 6 Pace University on March 28. O'Donnell scored the opening goal - and the first of his career - at No. 3 Saint Anselm on May 10 in the first round of the NCAA Championship, giving the Purple Knights the lead for good in a 9-8 win. He added three ground balls and two caused turnovers in the contest.

Poirier set a school record with 196 faceoff wins this season, eclipsing former teammate Cooper Wilson's '25 two-year-old mark (193), while his 62.4% success rate was the program's highest since Jeff Disa '02 in 2002 (69.6%). Poirier's 113 ground balls were second only to the 131 Wilson scooped in 2024. He is 17th in the nation in ground balls per game (7.06) and 18th in winning percentage. Among Poirier's top showings were going 21-for-21 with 17 ground balls against Franklin Pierce University on April 14, the best perfect performance by an NCAA Division II player in three years, a 19-for-20 outing with 14 ground balls versus D'Youville University on March 8, and a 11-for-13 display against No. 6 Pace on March 28.

A captain, Wiercinski was one of the most versatile long-stick midfielders in the country, not only notching 61 ground balls and 23 caused turnovers but scoring 10 goals and dishing an assist, keying the Purple Knights' 87.9% clearance rate. In an 11-10 win over No. 17 Southern New Hampshire on March 21, Wiercinski tallied 10 ground balls and two caused turnovers while also winning his only faceoff before adding four ground balls and two caused turnovers versus No. 6 Pace on March 28 and at No. 19 Assumption on April 4. After turning in two goals, three ground balls and three caused turnovers in the win over No. 20 Bentley on April 18, Wiercinski averaged 4.3 ground balls and 2.3 caused turnovers in three postseason games, ending the year with an assist, three ground balls and three caused turnovers at No. 11 Molloy in an NCAA Championship quarterfinal on May 13.

The Purple Knights finished the season at 10-6, within one win of tying a school record, while standing 19th in the most recent USILA national poll. Saint Michael's earned its first NCAA Championship bid this spring, advancing as far as the national quarterfinal round.
