Simonson and Woods Named USILA All-America, Land Second National Honor

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse May graduate Nathan Woods (Ottawa, Ontario/Kent School) and rising senior Sebastian Simonson (Spruce Grove, Alberta/Spruce Grove Composite) were named United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-America honorable mentions on Thursday. They both previously landed USA Lacrosse All-America honorable mention, USILA All-North Region and Northeast-10 Conference All-Conference first team honors this spring.

Simonson was among 23 NCAA Division II attackmen recognized, including 12 honorable mentions. He was one of six NE10 representatives on the list. Woods secured one of 17 short-stick defensive midfielder honors, with four hailing from the NE10. He was among 10 honorable mentions.

Woods totaled 13 goals, 20 points, 22 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers as a key to his team's transition game this spring. He had six multi-point outings and tallied in all but one game, and had such standout performances as one goal, three ground balls and three caused turnovers against Roberts Wesleyan University and one assist, three ground balls and two caused turnovers versus No. 10 Pace University.

Simonson is second in the NE10 in points per game, fourth in goals per game, and fifth in assists per game. He notched 59 points, 37 goals and 22 assists this spring, totaling the most goals by a Purple Knight since 2012 and the most points since 2013. Simonson heads into his senior year fifth in program history in both career points (145) and goals (98). He notched at least four points nine times, including four goals and two assists in a 12-11 win over Southern New Hampshire University, two goals and four assists in a 15-13 win at Assumption University, five points against No. 14 Bentley University on April 9, seven points versus No. 10 Pace, and a hat trick in a 15-13 win at No. 7 Saint Anselm College.

The duo contributed to the Purple Knights' best season in 11 years this season, as they were 9-5 overall and 6-3 in NE10 play, tying for fourth in the conference while regularly earning votes toward the USILA national poll. Saint Michael's earned the No. 5 seed in the NE10 Championship thanks to such season highlights as defeating Saint Anselm, the seventh-ranked team in the nation, on its home field, 15-13, on April 17.
