THE ACTION
- Junior defender Emersynn McGillis (Ottawa, Ontario/Nepean Jr. Wildcats) blocked Culp's bid on an open net with 5:18 gone in the opening period to keep the game scoreless.
- Ruiz scored the lone goal of the frame at 14:44, taking Leys' pass into the slot and wristing a shot off of the post and in.
- DeMarinis made the lead stand up at 16:11, saving first-year Drew Dyczkowski's shot before the puck flipped into the air and DeMarinis covered before it could cross the goal line.
- DeMarinis turned away all 19 shots sent her way in the second period.
- The Purple Knights had a good opportunity to double its lead around 5:10, when junior Elisabeth Gerebi (Victoria, Minn./Chanhassen) and sophomore Alizée LeBlanc (Dieppe, New Brunswick/Ridley College) had consecutive point-blank shots denied.
- Fairman found the equalizer at 2:41 of the third period, putting home a rebound after DeMarinis had saved senior Ashley Morrow's shot.
- The teams remained tied through regulation, leading to a 3-on-3 overtime period.
- Early in the extra stanza, Ruiz and senior Grace Canterbury (Eagle River, Alaska/Shattuck-Saint Mary's School) put back-to-back shots from the left circle on Thompson, who stopped both, and sophomore Grace Babington grabbed the second rebound and skated the length of the ice before having her breakaway bid denied by DeMarinis with 19 seconds gone.
- Only 20 seconds later, Fairman took a giveaway at the blue line and slid a centering pass for Culp, who finished the 2-on-1 breakout with the game-winner at 40 seconds.
