Women's Ice Hockey Downed at Mercyhurst in Weekend Finale

ERIE, Pa. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team lost to Mercyhurst University, 6-0, on Sunday at the Mercyhurst Ice Arena in the weekend finale of the first series of 2025.

GAME FACTS 

  • Lavender became the second Purple Knight to record 2,000 career saves with a stop during the second period of the matchup. Her career total now stands at 2,032, short only of Erin Stevens '13 (2,513) in program history. 

THE ACTION 

  • The Lakers scored three goals in the final 4:41 of the first period, including two on the power play, to take a 3-0 lead.  

  • Lavender's save on a shot at 2:01 in the second period was her 2,000th career save.  

  • Senior Grace Canterbury (Eagle River, Alaska/Shattuck-Saint Mary's School) had back-to-back opportunities at 12:42 and 12:46, but both chances were stopped by Mattison.  

  • The Lakers' lone second-period goal came at 8:21 on the power play when Upson tallied her second goal of the afternoon.  

  • Junior Lauren Fisher (Rothesay, New Brunswick/Rothesay Netherwood School) had two opportunities at 5:29 and 5:46 in the third period, but Mattison negated the chances to keep the Purple Knights off the scoreboard.  

  • Mercyhurst added two goals late in the third period to ice the game.
