Men's Soccer Trimmed by Roberts Wesleyan, 2-1

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - In its fourth consecutive contest against a regionally-ranked foe, the regionally-ranked Saint Michael's College men's soccer team lost to, Roberts Wesleyan University, 2-1, on Tuesday at Roberts Stadium. The Purple Knights were 10th in this week's United Soccer Coaches East Region poll, while the Redhawks stood ninth.

THE ACTION
  • The Purple Knights held a 5-3 edge in shots during a scoreless first half, when both teams took five corner kicks.
  • In the 54th minute, Saint Michael's used a sequence of three passes in seven seconds to find Ahmed for the go-ahead strike. Sophomore back Diego Aplicano's (Chandler, Ariz./Corona del Sol) throw-in on the far sideline found the feet of Andrews, who turned and passed to the edge of the box for Riby-Williams, whose cross was headed home by Ahmed near the right post.
  • Just 1:15 later, Hopson buried a tying penalty kick after a foul in the box. Only 7:07 after that, in the 63rd minute, Hopson made a slight touch on sophomore Sebastian Guerrero's cross into the box to slip a shot inside the left post, putting the hosts ahead.
  • The Purple Knights put six shots on net in the final 22 minutes while trying to find the equalizer, including senior Mikel Penin's (Bergara, Basque Country/Ipintza Institutua/Spring Hill) final bid in the 88th minute, but Jewson stopped them all to maintain the lead.
