SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - As part of October's National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, eight Saint Michael's College Athletics teams participated in the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K walk on Sunday at Veterans Memorial Park. The women's basketball program was among them, and has participated for more than a decade and a half as the initial Purple Knight squad to get involved.
Â
The programs raised more than $2,200 for the American Cancer Society of Vermont through the event, headed by women's basketball head coach and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) co-adviser
Shannon Bollhardt. Her team alone accounted for more than $1,000 of donations. Donations are still being accepted
here.
Â
As of Tuesday, more than 40 groups have already raised nearly $50,000 as part of the South Burlington event, according to the Making Strides website. For more information about Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, visit
