Men's Basketball Opens Season with 77-71 Loss at Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College men's basketball team opened the 2025-26 season with a 77-71 loss at the College of Staten Island on Friday during the Tournament of Heroes at the Sports & Recreation Center.

THE ACTION
  • Neither team led by more than four points until the Dolphins used an 11-2 run to lead 31-24 on Poulin's pair of free throws at 2:26 of the first half.
  • Littleton netted five points in a 12-3 run that bridged halftime, and the Purple Knights led 45-39 on Kenney's two free throws with 16:12 left in the second half.
  • A Staten Island 16-2 run was keyed by six points from Goldstein, as the hosts led 62-53 with 8:09 to go.
  • The Purple Knights trimmed their deficit to 67-65 on Briscoe's steal and fastbreak hoop at 2:30, but Goldstein knocked down two freebies at 1:50 before senior JJ Chestnut hit a jumper 42 seconds after that, and the hosts continued to lead by at least two possessions.
