Women's Ice Hockey Suffers NEWHA Defeat to Assumption

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team lost to Assumption University, 5-0, on Saturday during New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) action in Cairns Arena.

THE ACTION
  • Ava McGaffigan put home a rebound from a tough angle in the left circle with 7:50 gone in the first period after Valentini's shot ricocheted off the boards for the only scoring in the opening half of the contest.
  • Sophomore Alicia McDonald's (Clearwater, Fla./East Ottawa Junior Stars U22 AA) shot from the left point into traffic out front was steered away by Fournier at 18:35.
  • Valentini tallied from the slot on a power play at 11:42 of the second period, picking Dans' glove corner.
  • Dans made consecutive blocker stops on shots from the left circle around the 17:30 mark before Kayla McGaffigan tipped in junior Kaitlyn Cealo's shot from the left circle with 32 seconds to go.
  • Joiner added to the lead off of a giveaway deep in the Purple Knight end at 13:09 of the third period before Kayla McGaffigan scored 2:48 later.
