GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College women's volleyball team returned from a two-week layoff with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-17) loss at regional power Adelphi University during Northeast 10 Conference play on Saturday in the Center for Recreation and Sport.
 
With two regular-season matches remaining, the Purple Knights clinched a spot in the seven-team NE10 Championship due to other action around the league. The second-place Panthers were among 10 teams under consideration for the first NCAA East Region rankings this week.

• Patterson's kill had the Purple Knights within 6-4 in the opening set before the visitors twice trailed by two points after Panther service errors, but a 7-1 run soon thereafter put the hosts in control.

• The hosts scored the first six points of set No. 3 before Tower's solo block had Saint Michael's down 18-13, but the next three points went to the Panthers, who never again led by fewer than seven points.
