Balanced Scoring Effort Sends Women's Basketball Past VTSU Johnson

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's basketball team defeated Vermont State University Johnson, 101-40, on Sunday in the Ross Sports Center.

GAME FACTS
  • The Purple Knights tied a school record by making 14 three-pointers, a mark they set during an overtime game this past Feb. 1 at Southern Connecticut State University.
  • Saint Michael's held a 55-24 rebounding lead while assisting 25 of its 40 baskets and committing only nine turnovers, forcing 22 and blocking seven shots.
  • In a series that began in 1974, the teams met for the first time since Dec. 12, 1988.
  • Saint Michael's reached 100 points for the ninth time in program history, tying for fifth with the 101 points.
THE ACTION
  • Santos buried a pair of three-pointers 1:12 apart by 7:02 of the first quarter, and senior Ava MacDonough's (South Burlington, Vt./Rice Memorial) fastbreak lay-in made it 15-4 at 3:58.
  • Saint Michael's used a 28-4 run to extend the lead to 43-10 on Becotte's fastbreak bucket at 3:01 of the second period.
  • The hosts later put together 27-5 run to make it 73-19 on Montplaisir's triple with 2:03 left in the third before outscoring the Badgers 26-16 in the fourth stanza.
