Women's Basketball Limits Saint Thomas Aquinas in Second Half for Victory

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's basketball team limited Saint Thomas Aquinas College to 17 second-half points during a 69-49 victory on Wednesday in the Ross Sports Center.

  • Brophy scored 15 of her points after halftime, including while singlehandedly outscoring Saint Thomas Aquinas, 9-7, in the third quarter.

  • Saint Michael's scored the game's first seven points before the visitors countered with an 8-0 run, going ahead on Morel's fastbreak lay-up at 4:50 of the opening quarter. That was the first of nine lead changes in the first half, as the visitors led by as many as six points on two occasions in the second period.
  • Behind 70.0% first-quarter shooting and an 8-of-10 free throw effort in the second stanza, Saint Thomas Aquinas led by halftime, 32-29.
  • Saint Michael's scored the first nine points of the third, and Cieplicki's foul-line jumper at 4:02 put her team ahead for good, sparking a 14-0 run that carried into the fourth quarter.
  • The Spartans came no closer than 52-44 down the stretch, as the hosts countered with a 16-3 stretch.
