Men's Basketball Pulls Away Late for 90-78 Win Over Franklin Pierce

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's basketball team used a late 11-0 run to blow open a three-point game and pull away from Franklin Pierce University for a 90-78 win on Monday evening in the Ross Sports Center. The Purple Knights won for the fifth time in six games while meeting their Northeast 10 Conference foe for a non-league affair.

  • Saint Michael's won its fifth straight from Franklin Pierce.
  • The Purple Knights were bolstered by a 13-for-29 (44.8%) three-point performance - including 8-for-14 (57.1%) in the first half - against the Ravens' 8-for-21 (38.1%) showing.
  • While both teams snagged 14 offensive rebounds, the Purple and Gold held a 27-14 lead in second-chance points.
THE ACTION
  • Littleton's five straight points sparked 7-0 run that snapped a 5-all tie, and the hosts increased their lead to 24-12 on Byrd's driving lay-in by the time 11:48 remained in the opening half.
  • The visitors trimmed the deficit to 44-40 on a pair of Baka free throws at 2:21, but the Purple Knights went into the locker room up 53-42 after Kenney drilled a buzzer-beating three-pointer to cap a 9-2 run.
  • Briscoe's three-pointer at 15:51 of the second half gave Saint Michael's a game-high 63-49 lead, and the hosts were still up 73-62 on De Leon's bucket at 10:56.
  • In a 2:07 span, the Ravens scored the next nine points, keyed by five points from Parker, with his triple making it 73-71 with 8:33 to go.
  • Kenney buried a trey at 6:56 for the next points, but Parker's fastbreak lay-in still had the visitors within 77-74 with 5:12 left.
  • Kenney knocked down another three on the ensuing possession, kicking off an 11-0 run that sealed the win. Four players scored in that time, with Kenney sealing the stretch with two free throws at 2:51.
