COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College women's volleyball senior
Dana Welch (Howell, N.J./Donovan Catholic) and junior
Ashley Marshall (Escondido, Calif./Escondido Charter) qualified for College Sports Communicators (CSC) NCAA Division II Academic All-District honors on Tuesday.
Welch landed her third career accolade, while Marshall was lauded for the first time. The duo was among 21 total qualifiers from the Northeast 10 Conference
College Sports Communicators, formerly known as College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), moved to a qualification system for All-District accolades in 2022, with major contributors toting at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average by their sophomore seasons eligible. Each school was able to put four student-athletes forward for an award that previously necessitated voting. Instead, All-District honorees can now advance directly to the Academic All-America ballot, which will still incorporate national membership voting.
Welch dropped 156 kills this fall while nearly doubling her career block total with a personal-best 53 as a senior. She finished her career with 610 kills, 214 digs and 121 blocks from her position as an opposite hitter. Welch has a 3.67 GPA as an accounting and psychology double major, and qualified for the NE10 Academic Honor Roll each of her first six semesters. She also claimed Division 2 Athletics Directors Association (D2 ADA) Academic Achievement Awards as a sophomore and junior.
Marshall posted career highs across the board during her first season as a regular setter, notching 504 assists, 125 digs, 13 aces and 10 blocks. A psychology major, she totes a 3.82 GPA as a four-time NE10 Academic Honor Roll honoree and one-time D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award qualifier.
Through the Academic All-America program, CSC names separate Academic All-District and Academic All-America teams at each the NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III levels, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
