Men's Basketball Defeated by Saint Anselm in NE10 Opener

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's basketball team kicked off Northeast 10 Conference play with an 88-69 loss to Saint Anselm College on Wednesday evening in the Ross Sports Center.

THE ACTION
  • Marold's lay-up 53 seconds into the game gave Saint Michael's the first lead, as the visitors led by as much as 19-9 on Catchings' three-pointer at 11:03 and never trailed until 13:16 remained in the second half.
  • The teams traded the lead six times in a 2:03 span around the middle portion of the final period, and De Leon's bucket had Saint Michael's up 59-55 with 10:44 left.
  • Saint Anselm countered with a 14-2 run, going ahead 69-61 on Onyia's triple at 6:38.
  • Redshirt first-year Mac Kelly's (Mineola, N.Y./Hun School of Princeton/Colorado Christian) three-point play with 5:32 left had the Purple Knights within 71-66, but the visitors ended the game on a 17-3 run, bolstered by 63.9% second-half shooting after a 31.4% performance in the opening 20 minutes.
