WORCESTER, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College women's basketball team had its four-game winning streak snapped with a 49-43 loss to regionally-ranked Assumption University on Wednesday during Northeast-10 Conference play in Laska Gymnasium. The Greyhounds were tied for ninth in this week's D2 CSC East Region poll.

THE ACTION

• Three players scored during an 8-0 run that gave Assumption an 11-4 lead by 3:34 of the first quarter, but four Purple Knights tallied in a 9-2 counter, with Tyler tying the game with two free throws at 7:03 of the second period (13-13).
• Stokes scored half of her team's points during an 8-2 response, and the hosts carried a 24-18 lead into the locker room.
• After Saint Michael's shot 1-of-7 from three-point range in the first half, Furch was a perfect 4-of-4 in the third period alone, scoring 15 of her team's 19 points and singlehandedly outscoring Assumption (13). All of her triples came in an early 4:17 span, and Santos' lay-in at 4:20 pushed the Purple and Gold's lead to a stanza-best 36-31.
• Stokes' fastbreak basket tied the game with 35 seconds to go (37-37), but Franchi and Furch dropped home consecutive baskets to begin the fourth quarter, giving their team a 41-37 lead.
• Saint Michael's still led 43-39 with 5:02 left, but Stokes' tie-breaking three-point play at 1:51 made it 46-43.
• Still up by just three, Assumption missed two free throws with 12 seconds left, but Callahan grabbed the offensive board of the second, and the Greyhounds wrapped three clinching free throws around a Purple Knight missed shot.
