Baseball Swept by Minnesota Duluth During Florida Swing

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team lost a pair of seven-inning affairs to the University of Minnesota Duluth, 5-4 and 11-5, on Sunday during the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational at Lake Myrtle Sports Park.

THE ACTION
  • Kolifrath's sac fly in the bottom of the first inning put his team on the board before the Bulldogs plated the tying run on a groundout in the second.
  • Kolifrath blasted a two-run home run in the third, and Kinsella's two-out RBI single pushed the lead to 4-1.
  • Minnesota Duluth countered with three runs on four hits the following frame, with Stauffacher poking an RBI double before Peloquin tied the game with a two-run double.
  • Junior Michael Gabbard drew a two-out bases-loaded walk in the next inning to put the Bulldogs ahead.

THE ACTION
  • Lynch's opposite-field solo home run with two down in the bottom of the first inning accounted for the Bulldogs' only run off of Guzman in his college pitching debut over the first two frames.
  • Saint Michael's pushed home four runs in the third thanks to an RBI double by Kolifrath and RBI knocks from sophomore Richard Gilboy (South Portland, Maine/South Portland), Kinsella and Arsenault.
  • Minnesota Duluth tied the game in the home half, with runs scoring on a sac fly, error and groundout.
  • The Bulldogs received a tie-breaking sac fly from Stauffacher in the fifth before Bushey contributed a two-out, three-run double to create a four-run lead.
  • Cavossa added an RBI groundout the next inning, but Lynch slugged his second opposite-field home run, this one driving home two, during a three-run Minnesota Duluth sixth.
