Men's Lacrosse Pulls Away Behind Strong Defensive Effort to Down Roberts Wesleyan

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse team is off to its second 3-0 start in as many seasons after downing Roberts Wesleyan University, 13-5, on Sunday at Redhawks Field. The Purple Knights received votes toward the latest United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) national poll.

  • Simonson pushed his career point total to 166, passing Brian Loughlin '18 (162) to take over second in program history. Only Mike Riddell '88 (173) is ahead of him. He also tied Rick Saba '92 and Greg Lazarus '08 for second with 109 goals.
  • Reyes now has 94 career points, as 24 Purple Knights have reached the 100-point plateau.
  • The Purple Knights defeated the Redhawks for the first time in three series meetings, having lost the first two by a total of five goals.
THE ACTION
  • Simonson scored twice and assisted Hughes to help the Purple Knights lead 3-1 by 7:10 of the first quarter.
  • Wilson tallied twice in a 2:20 stretch to tie the game, but Murphy's strike with 32 seconds remaining sparked a 9-0 run. Cahill scored at 7:51 of the fourth quarter to push the lead to 12-3.
  • The Purple Knights held the Redhawks scoreless during the middle two periods. By the time sophomore Ryan Brown scored for Roberts Wesleyan at 2:32 of the fourth quarter, the hosts had not scored in 44:44.
