Du Plessis Registers 100th Career Win, Men's Tennis Downs Bentley

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's tennis graduate student Tristian Du Plessis (Rustenburg, South Africa/Hoërskool Waterkloof/Wallace State CC) earned his 100th college win for the clinching point in the Purple Knights' 6-1 Northeast-10 Conference victory over Bentley University on Tuesday in the Tarrant Recreation Center.

MATCH FACTS
  • Du Plessis reached 100 career wins between his time at Wallace State Community College and Saint Michael's. In three semesters at Wallace State (2020-22), he went 27-8 in singles and 26-9 during doubles to finish with a 53-17 mark while helping his team earn a pair of top-10 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I Championship finishes. In three seasons as a Purple Knight, he is 47-54 while primarily appearing at No. 1 singles the last two years and at No. 1 doubles throughout his time at the College, siding with Barroso to form one of the top tandems in program history the past two seasons.
  • Barroso upped his career win total to 62 between singles and doubles, within six of former teammate Jason Boucher's '23 program record (68).
  • The Purple Knights have won five of their past six meetings against Bentley after capturing four of the prior 36 contests since 1983.
THE ACTION
  • The doubles duos of Barroso/Du Plessis and Effler/Macpherson won by dueling 6-1 counts at No. 1 and 3, respectively, to clinch the opening point.
  • In the second spot, Brooker's backhanded winner down the line broke the Falcons' serve to cap a 6-4 victory.
  • Barroso earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles before van den Broek finished off a 6-3, 7-5 win in the third spot after trailing 3-0 in the opening set.
  • In a lengthy contest at No. 1, Du Plessis secured his 100th win, 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 3-2 (retired), when his opponent was unable to continue playing after suffering an injury. The triumph also clinched the Purple Knights' win.
  • Effler lost at No. 4 after rallying to take the final three games of the second set in a 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 defeat.
  • Hegedus-Kyster earned a 6-2, 6-3 win in the fifth spot before Moser picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6.
