Men's Tennis Defeated by Franklin Pierce, 5-2

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's tennis team lost to Franklin Pierce University, 5-2, on Tuesday during Northeast-10 Conference play at the SMC Tennis Courts.

THE ACTION
  • Brooker and Moser blanked their foe at No. 2 doubles, but the Purple Knights' other two duos both lost 6-4 decisions to allow the Ravens take the opening point. Graduate student Tristian Du Plessis (Rustenburg, South Africa/Hoërskool Waterkloof/Wallace State CC) and senior Sergio Barroso (Madrid, Spain/Colegio Montpellier) sided in the top spot, while first-years Brayden Effler (San Antonio/Alamo Heights) and Jamie Macpherson (Durham, United Kingdom/Framwellgate School Durham) partnered at No. 3.
  • The Ravens pushed out to a 3-0 lead by winning in straight sets in the top two singles spots.
  • In his debut playing as high as the third position, first-year Benji Hegedus-Kyster (Budapest, Hungary/British International School Budapest) played a pair of close sets in a 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 defeat that provided the visitors the clinching point.
  • Brooker followed by closing out a 5-7, 7-6 (7-5), 10-5 victory at No. 4, and Moser led his foe 5-3 in the opening set at No. 6 when he won by retirement. Effler was downed by a 7-5, 6-3 decision in the fifth spot.
