The Penmen were ranked fourth in this week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) East Region poll.

  • Saint Michael's had a good day against Trumpour, one of the NE10's top pitchers, who entered the contest 16th in the nation in earned run average (1.96) while limiting hitter to a .192 batting average. He was also 10th in Division II in walks plus hits per inning pitched (WHIP) at 0.93; his tally on Saturday was 2.45.

  • Larson slugged his first career home run
THE ACTION
  • After sophomore Jacob Smith (Hopedale, Mass./Hopedale) led off the third inning with a single, Larson launched a two-run homer one out later to right center for the game's first runs. Cavossa followed with a walk before later scoring in sophomore Colin Kinsella's (Winthrop, Mass./Winthrop) two-out single through the right side.
  • The Penmen responded with a pair of solo home runs in the fourth, as Marshall and Lavigne both went deep.
  • Saint Michael's countered with four runs in the home half to take a 7-2 lead. Larson's groundout plated Moynihan, and Cavossa dropped a two-run single into right field. He later came home on a wild pitch.
  • Sophomore Nater Wachter's ground-rule RBI double made it 7-3 in the fifth, but Safer stranded two in scoring position thanks to inducing a pair of fly balls to end the threat.
  • Burgos led off the sixth with a home run before Lavigne walked, but Burke entered from the bullpen to retire 10 of his first 11 batters, with seven of the first eight going down on strikes.
  • Senior Jancarlos Colon singled with one out in the ninth and stole second, but the Penmen never brought the tying run to the plate, as Burke followed by inducing a groundout and fanning his final hitter.
NEXT SAINT MICHAEL'S GAME
  • Wednesday vs. Franklin Pierce University, 12 p.m. doubleheader.
  • The Ravens were 10th in this week's NCBWA East Region poll.
