Men's Tennis Loses to Adelphi in Meeting Between Regionally-Ranked NE10 Foes

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - In a meeting between teams listed in the NCAA's first six-time East Region rankings, the Saint Michael's College men's tennis team lost to Adelphi University, 6-1, on Saturday during Northeast-10 Conference play.

MATCH FACTS
  • Barroso upped his career win total to 65 between singles and doubles, within three of former teammate Jason Boucher's '23 program record (68). He is now tied with John Lescure '09 for second place.
  • Barroso also matched Torr Terranova '08 for third in program annals in career doubles wins (34), as he and Du Plessis earned their 23rd win together, two shy of a school mark set by Kevin Birch '93 and Phil Noto '93. The duo is 7-3 this school year, including 5-2 in NE10 action.
THE ACTION
  • Adelphi won the opening doubles match before claiming a 6-4 contest in the second position, with Moser and sophomore Garrett Brooker (Charleston, S.C./Oceanside Collegiate Academy) siding for the Purple Knights in that narrow loss. The Panthers led 1-0 thanks to taking those decisions.
  • Barroso and Du Plessis picked up a 6-4 victory at No. 1 over the top-ranked doubles tandem in the region, which entered the day 12-3 this school year and won the ITA East Regional Championship title in September.
  • The Panthers earned a 3-0 lead with wins in the top two singles spots before clinching the win when first-year Benji Hegedus-Kyster (Budapest, Hungary/British International School Budapest) was defeated 6-3, 6-4 in the third position.
  • Brooker lost a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 contest at No. 4 before first-year Brayden Effler (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) fell 6-4, 6-2 in the fifth slot. Moser capped the match by capturing a 6-2, 7-5 decision at No. 6.
