Cross Country Trio Earns College Sports Communicators Academic All-District

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College cross country rising juniors Kennedy Holsapple (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme), Fran Peterson (Barron, Wis./Barron) and Andrew Scanio (Lake Placid, N.Y./Lake Placid) all qualified for College Sports Communicators (CSC) NCAA Division II Academic All-District honors on Tuesday.

Holsapple was one of the Purple Knights' top four runners at all six races last fall, finishing as high as 11th overall during both the 6K Shacklette Invitational and 8K Equality Invitational, with the latter on her home course. She took 23rd at the Northeast 10 Conference Championship and 49th during the NCAA East Regional Championship, occupying her team's third scoring spot at both events. Holsapple carries a 3.85 cumulative grade-point average as a digital media & communications major, and landed her first CSC Academic All-District nod. She has placed on the NE10 Academic Honor Roll all four semesters and earned a pair of U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic accolades.

Peterson nabbed her second career USTFCCCA East Regional All-Region and NE10 All-Conference first team accolades last fall after placing seventh at the league championship and 11th at regionals. She opened the year with a runner-up finish at the 6K Shacklette Invitational before winning the 8K Equality Invitational on home soil. A 4.0 student-athlete as a biology major, Peterson was recognized last week with her first CSC Academic All-District award thanks to her Nordic skiing career. She was named NE10 Academic All-Conference last fall, has qualified for the NE10 Academic Honor Roll every term, and is a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree.

Scanio paced the Purple Knights by placing 21st at last year's NE10 Championship and 27th at the NCAA East Regional Championship while adding a pair of top-17 showings. The dual-sport student-athlete, who is also a Nordic skier, holds a 3.67 GPA as a music and data science double major. He posted his first career CSC Academic All-District laurel, was named NE10 Academic All-Conference last fall, has placed on the NE10 Academic Honor Roll every semester, and is a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic qualifier.

College Sports Communicators recognizes major contributors toting at least a 3.50 GPA by their sophomore seasons. Each school was able to put a maximum number of student-athletes forward for an award that previously necessitated voting. Instead, All-District honorees can now advance directly to the Academic All-America ballot, which still incorporates national membership voting. Through the Academic All-America program, CSC names Academic All-District and Academic All-America teams at each the NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III levels, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
