Five Score in First Half, Men's Soccer Opens NE10 Play with Win Over Assumption

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Five first-half goal scorers lifted the Saint Michael's College men's soccer team past Assumption University, 5-1, during each team's Northeast 10 Conference opener on Saturday at Duffy Field.

THE ACTION
  • Sophomore Sekou Kouyate nearly put Assumption ahead early in the third minute, but first-year back Liam Weldon (Essex, Vt./Shattuck-Saint Mary's School) cleared his bid off the line.
  • In the 16th minute, Andrews touched junior Marshall Butler's (Middletown, Conn./Middletown) cross along to the center of the box, where Schwalbe-Goodwin ran on to bang home his first college goal.
  • Early in the 20th minute, Miralles served a corner kick into the box for Andrews, who headed in a shot from near the left post.
  • After a Greyhound was fouled in the box during the 31st minute, Gerremo stepped up to convert a penalty kick, halving his team's deficit.
  • The Purple Knights finished the first half with a three-goal flurry in a matter of 10:29. Miralles' corner kick was headed in by Riby-Williams in the 33rd minute before Salamanca Lopez won a loose ball and scored from the top of the box in the 39th minute.
  • In the 44th minute, Riby-Williams picked off a back pass and goaded the netminder into sliding out of position before slipping a pass to Penin, who finished on an open net.
