Women's Basketball Defeats NE10 Foe Adelphi, 52-40

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's basketball team pushed out to a 22-point first-half lead en route to a 52-40 win over Adelphi University during Northeast 10 Conference play on Saturday in the Ross Sports Center.

GAME FACTS
  • The Purple Knights pulled 63 rebounds, within six of a school record set on Dec. 6, 1988. They were the most recorded by an NE10 team since Bentley University had 64 against Concordia (N.Y.) College on Nov. 9, 2018.
  • Saint Michael's rolled up a 63-30 rebounding lead, including 21-6 on the offensive glass.

THE ACTION
  • After Morales hit a three-pointer at 6:10 of the first quarter to give Adelphi a 5-2 lead, the Purple Knights stormed back with a 29-4 response. Eight players scored during the run, when Saint Michael's at one point made five threes in six tries. Five different players accounted for the triples, and the hosts led 31-9 at 4:27 of the second period.
  • The Purple Knights were still up 36-15 at halftime before the Panthers scored the first three buckets of the second half to draw within 15, ultimately trimming their deficit to 40-30 on Azemark's fastbreak lay-up at 1:04.
  • First-year Gianna Chuffo knocked down a trey that cut the lead to 42-37 with 7:45 left in the fourth quarter, but Saint Michael's tallied the next six points, including a key three from Montplaisir at 4:14 that pushed the lead back to nine (46-37). Adelphi came no closer down the stretch.
