Women's Ice Hockey Downed by First-Place Saint Anselm

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team lost to first-place Saint Anselm College, 5-0, on Friday during New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) play at Cairns Arena.

THE ACTION
  • Saint Michael's held a 21-8 lead in first-period shots, including starting with a 13-2 advantage nearly by the midway point of the frame.
  • DeCoteau scored the lone goal in the stanza, however, picking up a loose puck in the right circle before skating behind the net and finishing from near the left post at 13:00.
  • Young made it 2-0 42 seconds into the second period, taking a giveaway near her own blue line, carrying through neutral ice, and finishing from the right circle.
  • Schneiderhan went glove corner from the right circle on a power play at 9:15, and DeCoteau scored again at 15:44.
  • Sophomore Alicia McDonald (Clearwater, Fla./East Ottawa Junior Stars U22 AA) snuck behind the defense for a short breakaway in the latter stages but was turned away by Matyas at 17:27.
  • Schneiderhan capped an odd-woman rush at 9:02 of the third period for the stanza's only scoring.
