THE ACTION
  • Winicki tallied only 1:24 into the contest off of Tuite's backdoor pass, with first-year Aj Sacco (Middleton, Mass./Islanders Hockey Club) also assisting.
  • The Hawks finally solved Plunkett during a power play 12:08 into the second period, as Connolly converted a wrister from the right circle.
  • Wolanin broke the deadlock at 11:04 of the third period, floating a shot from the left point inside the left post. Dresser and Thomas assisted.
  • McCarthy made it 3-1 just 4:01 later, as his crossing pass during a 2-on-1 breakout hit a Hawk and redirected past Carroll. Bloom and Wolanin lent helpers.
  • That goal seemed to have the Purple Knights, who allowed as many as three goals only five times in their first 21 games, well on their way to victory before the Hawks pulled off a stunning comeback.
  • Shortly after Carroll left the ice in favor of an extra skater, Cordeiro swung a tough-angle shot from below the right circle home at 18:42 to make it 3-2. Only 13 seconds later, Linart found the equalizer from near the left post after a cross-ice bouncing puck found him, again with the Hawks playing 6-on-5.
  • Saint Anselm created a quick transition opportunity mere seconds after that, and Kelly roofed a shot from between the circles at 19:16 off of sophomore Brendan Manning's centering pass, capping a stretch of three goals in 34 seconds.
  • After calling a timeout following the goal, Saint Michael's was unable to pull Plunkett until 10 seconds remained and never got a look at a tying strike.
