Women's Basketball Loses to Second-Place Southern Connecticut State, 59-50

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's basketball team lost to second-place Southern Connecticut State University, 59-50, on Saturday during Northeast 10 Conference play in the Ross Sports Center.

GAME FACTS
  • Tyler posted her second 20-point outing in three games, averaging 19.7 points in that stretch. She also turned in her sixth double-double of the year, and fifth in eight contests.
  • Saint Michael's held a 46-36 rebounding lead, including 19-8 on the offensive glass.
THE ACTION
  • Tyler buried a pair of three-pointers en route to giving Saint Michael's an 8-2 lead by 7:40 of the first quarter, and she had eight points by the time she converted two free throws at 6:09. The hosts were up 10-6.
  • Blackwood had five points during a 10-0 counter, and the Owls blew open a two-point game in the second quarter with a 17-0 run to go up 35-16 by 4:18. The Steinauer sisters combined for 12 of those points. Martin's triple at 2:30 gave Southern Connecticut State its largest lead, 38-18.
  • The Owls were still up 48-29 with 3:09 left in the third stanza before Santos netted four points during an 8-0 spurt, and Franchi knocked down a three to make it 53-46 at 5:04 of the fourth quarter.
  • Montplaisir netted the final four points of what eventually became a 21-7 run, drawing Saint Michael's within 55-50 with 1:20 left on a free throw. However, the hosts missed their final five shots despite snaring four offensive boards down the stretch. Martin went 4-of-4 on free throws in the final 37 seconds to salt away the win.
