Women's Ice Hockey Loses to Sacred Heart, 3-1, on Senior Day

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team lost to Sacred Heart University, 3-1, on Saturday during New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) play on Saturday at Cairns Arena.
 
The Purple Knights honored seniors Elisabeth Gerebi (Victoria, Minn./Chanhassen), Lilly Hartnell (Tampa, Fla./Saint Anselm College), Annika Lavender (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) and Emersynn McGillis (Ottawa, Ontario/Nepean Jr. Wildcats) as part of their Senior Day festivities.

  • Lavender kept Sacred Heart off the board with a pad save of junior Grayson Limke on a breakaway at 9:26 of the first period.
  • Cohen finished a 2-on-1 with a one-timer from the left circle with 10:19 gone after Bowlby carried from her own corner and make the final pass.
  • Lavender tipped junior Bria Holms' close-range shot off the crossbar with her blocker at 15:46, and the hosts evened the game at 17:23, as McGillis' shot from the left circle made its way through. Jarvis and Weatherred assisted.
  • Ella Holm put her team back in front with only eight seconds remaining, pushing in a rebound at the right post during a power play.
  • Lavender's sprawling save of Ella Holm at 12:42 of the second period kept her team within striking distance.
  • Bowlby padded the lead by slipping a shot from the left circle past Lavender at 7:05 of the third period during a power play.
  • The Purple Knights pulled Lavender at 17:32 but were unable to get any further shots on net.
