THE ACTION
  • The Purple Knights put pressure on LIU during the early portion of the opening period, with the visitors sending four shots on net and having another four shots blocked by 5:46, but the teams finished the stanza without any scoring. The hosts held a 15-10 lead in shots by intermission.
  • LIU went ahead 3:09 into the second period. After junior Sam Mathe ripped a shot from the right circle that hit the end boards, the puck ricocheted back out toward the left post, where an unmarked Babington banged in the rebound.
  • Saint Michael's responded less than a minute later. Hetman sent a cross-ice pass into the neutral zone and off the boards for Weatherred, who chipped the puck to elude one defender before toe dragging in the right circle to beat another Shark and slipping a shot through Kammholz with 4:05 gone.
  • The teams remained tied until the Sharks scored three times in the final 4:50. LIU went back in front at 15:10 of the third period, when Wildfong chipped a loose puck from out front over Lavender.
  • Only 1:38 later, Weilandt made it 3-1, batting home a third effort from near the left post following a pair of sprawling saves by Lavender.
  • Dyczkowski iced the win with an empty-net goal beyond diving sophomore defender Julia Chedel (Haverhill, Mass./Kimball Union Academy) at 18:48.
