Brookes Earns NE10 Sport Excellence Award for Women's Soccer

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College women's soccer sophomore Scarlett Brookes (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) was named Northeast 10 Conference Sport Excellence Award winner for her sport on Wednesday, when the top scholar-athlete for each of the NE10's seven fall sports was unveiled.

Brookes becomes the eighth Saint Michael's student-athlete to ever claim the accolade, joining women's swimming & diving All-American Lindsay McNall '17 in 2016-17 as the lone representatives from women's programs. Brookes is the initial Purple Knight from a fall sport so honored. The College has now had one NE10 Sport Excellence Award winner in four consecutive school years, following men's ice hockey's Marshall Murphy '24 (2022-23) and David Ciancio '25 (2023-24) and men's lacrosse's Sebastian Simonson '25 (2024-25).

Brookes, who carried a 3.98 cumulative grade-point average into the spring term, added to an awards haul that included United Soccer Coaches All-America second team, Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association (D2 CCA) All-America third team, D2 CCA East Region Player of the Year, and NE10 Player of the Year accolades for the 2025 season, with another seven regional and conference athletic and academic honors in the mix.

Despite missing four games, Brookes led the NE10 in goals (13), points (31) and game-winning goals (6), placing top 10 in the nation in winners (7th), points per game (9th) and goals per game (10th) while scoring on nearly 42% of her shots on goal. Brookes set a school record for game-winners and had the most goals or points by a Purple Knight since Michelle Bougor '98, an SMC Athletic Hall of Famer and the program's all-time leading scorer, notched 15 goals and 37 points in 1996. Brookes' 31 points are fourth in program history, and her 13 goals tied for fourth. Her nine career winners are one short of Sara Pope '04 for the most by a Purple Knight since complete records became available in 1996.

NE10 Sport Excellence Award winners are chosen by a vote of committee of athletic administrators and Faculty Athletic Representatives (FAR). To be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative GPA; and 3) completed at least one academic year at their current institution.
