WORCESTER, Mass. - Sophomore
Lucas Haynes (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) broke his own school record in the 1,000-yard freestyle to highlight the Saint Michael's College men's and women's swimming & diving teams' opening day at the four-day Northeast 10 Conference Championship on Friday at Worcester Polytechnic Institute's (WPI) Sports & Recreation Center.

- Saint Michael's is fourth among eight schools with 72 points, just short of third-place Southern Connecticut State University (77) and second-place Bentley University (83)
SAINT MICHAEL'S LEADERS
- Haynes placed fourth in the 1,000 free at the NE10 Championship for the second straight year, clocking in at 9:44.31 to shatter a school record of 9:45.69 he set on Nov. 23, 2024. He rose two spots from his No. 6 seed entering the meet. Senior Rafael Kowal (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh/Alfred State) claimed fifth, matching his seed, with a time of 9:45.60. Junior Cal Baird (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) also scored in the event, placing 16th (10:25.54).
- The quartet of Haynes, Kowal, senior Connor Quirbach (Lowell, Mass./Chelmsford) and first-year Robert Riccobon (West Hartford, Conn./Avon Old Farms School) placed fifth in the 800 free relay (7:06.66). A second foursome captured 15th, with senior Gavin Nelson (Winona, Minn./Winona Senior), juniors Hunter Daily (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) and Liam Jordan (Mendon, Mass./Wellesley), and sophomore Nate Alexander (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) siding to finish in 7:26.31.

- Saint Michael's stands sixth out of nine schools with 42 points, within range of fifth-place University of Bridgeport (51) and fourth-place Pace University (56)
SAINT MICHAEL'S LEADERS
- Junior Madeline Waldt (Abingdon, Md./The Catholic High School of Baltimore) scored in both events on Thursday evening. During the 800 free relay, she joined classmates Ashley Meade (Belle Harbor, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) and Ayden Walsh (Tallahassee, Fla./Creekside) and sophomore Sydney McSweeney (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) to place seventh (8:13.72). Waldt also captured 13th in the 1,000 free (11:11.05) after entering the event as the No. 14 seed.
- The Purple Knights' B quartet of senior Riley Beaudoin (Groton, Mass./Groton-Dunstable Regional), junior Hannah Steen (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth), and sophomores Shay Callanan (Shaftsbury, Vt./Mount Anthony Union) and Mary Mongelli (Rockville, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) were 15th in the 800 free relay (8:16.10).
