Men's Lacrosse Opens Season with 11-9 Win at Frostburg State

FROSTBURG, Md. - Senior Mike Nelson (Worcester, Mass./Auburn) made eight of his 17 saves in the fourth quarter during his first college start to backstop the Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse team to an 11-9 win over Frostburg State University on Friday at Bobcat Stadium.

GAME FACTS
  • Nelson earned the win in his first career start after totaling 29 saves in 15 contests entering the day.
THE ACTION
  • After Allison scored the game's first goal with 2:29 gone in the opening quarter, the Purple Knights responded with a 5-1 run courtesy of five different goal scorers en route to leading 6-3 with 4:32 left in the second.
  • The Bobcats rattled off a tying 3-0 run in a matter of 1:08, with Celio scoring twice, and the teams were tied at halftime, 6-6.
  • Saint Michael's outscored Frostburg State, 4-1, in a key third quarter, with Peraza netting a pair, including the marker that put his team ahead for good with 4:42 left.
  • Senior Matt Williams and Mullineaux scored 2:09 apart in the fourth period to make it 10-9 by 9:40, but Drake turned in the lone goal down the stretch, at 4:45, and Nelson made seven saves in the final stanza alone.
