Women's Ice Hockey Caps Regular Season with 4-1 Setback at Stonehill

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team capped the regular season with a 4-1 loss to Stonehill College during New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEHWA) play on Saturday at Bridgewater Ice Arena.

  • With 3,303 career saves, Lavender is nine short of the top 20 in NCAA National Collegiate (Division I/II) women's ice hockey history.
THE ACTION
  • Lavender made 17 saves during a scoreless first period.
  • In the second frame, Whynot put Stonehill up with 3:16 gone, firing from a tough angle along the goal line. Sacca doubled the lead 4:59 later, tallying from the left circle after taking a giveaway.
  • Hetman halved the deficit at 9:54 of the third, putting in the rebound of Goolie's initial bid after FitzGibbon's pass sprung her for a breakout through the right circle.
  • The Purple Knights were still within a single tally during the late stages until Russell cashed in on the only penalty of the game with a power-play strike from between the circles at 17:45. Only 24 seconds later, Bibeau knocked in a rebound for an insurance marker.
