Baseball Finishes Weekend Split of Reigning NE10 Champion Pace

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team finished off a four-game Northeast 10 Conference weekend split of regionally-ranked Pace University by taking the second half of a Sunday doubleheader, 7-5, at Peter X. Finnerty Field. The Setters, who were ranked 10th in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) East Region poll, took a 10-1 decision in seven innings during the opener.

DOUBLEHEADER FACTS
  • Sophomore Jerry Guzman (Valley Cottage, N.Y./Brunswick School) picked up his third career save in the nightcap. He was instrumental to the Purple Knights' last three victories over Pace, saving both wins this weekend after hitting a walk-off RBI single last April 13.
  • Senior Sam Cavossa (East Falmouth, Mass./The Winchendon School) tied Terence Moynihan '25 for second in program history in career hits (137) while matching Seth Cole '01 and Kevin Harutunian '06 for second in runs (82). Only Nicky Elderton '15 has more runs (83), and Alec Tice '14 holds the hits mark (146).
  • Graduate student Max Kolifrath (Millbury, Mass./Millbury) moved into second in school annals with 79 career RBI, passing Evan Balian '25 (78). Only Sean Finnell '94 has more RBI (87).
  • Pace won the 2025 NE10 Championship to qualify for the NCAA Tournament.

  • Graduate student Taison Jemison's RBI groundout plated the game's first run in the second, and Crispino's RBI double made it 2-0 in the third.
  • Kolifrath doubled home Pattison to halve the deficit in the fourth.
  • Pace responded with seven runs in the home half, as Sweppenhiser slugged a grand slam before first-year Anthony Depetro, the next batter, also went deep.

THE ACTION
  • Kolifrath's RBI fielder's choice in the first inning was met by Crispino's RBI single in the home half.
  • First-year Luke McGuire (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) and Bido knocked back-to-back RBI singles in the second.
  • An error plated a Setter in the bottom half, and Cimino's two-out, two-run single in the fourth gave Pace a 4-3 lead.
  • Kolifrath's sac fly tied the game in the fifth, but Sweppenhiser singled up the middle with two down in the fifth to put the hosts back ahead.
  • Cavossa's RBI knock tied the game in the seventh before Gilboy's run-scoring single brought Pattison around. Kinsella capped the three-run frame with a sac fly.
  • Dupuis pitched around two runners in the eighth by inducing an inning-ending 5-3 ground-ball double play that Guzman started.
  • Guzman entered to close the game in the ninth and got Kolifrath to start a 3-6 double play before the final batter popped to the catcher Cavossa in foul territory.
