Baseball Opens Florida Swing with Doubleheader Loss

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team opened a three-day Florida swing by being swept by West Virginia Wesleyan College, 7-3 and 5-4, in a pair of seven-inning contests on Thursday at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex during the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

THE ACTION
  • The homestanding Bobcats led 3-0 by the bottom of the second inning, plating a trio of unearned runs on one hit and three errors.
  • Arsenault's two-out RBI double got the Purple Knights on the board in the fourth inning, but West Virginia Wesleyan plated three runs on three hits in the home half, keyed by run-scoring hits from Cross and junior Adrian Amezquita.
  • Down 7-2 in the seventh, the Purple Knights drew within four runs on Gilboy's two-out RBI double, putting two in scoring position, but Mann came from the bullpen to fan his only batter.

THE ACTION
  • Kolifrath's two-out RBI double in the home half of the first inning broke the scoreless deadlock before three more runs came around in the second, with Pattison and Kinsella knocking two-out RBI singles.
  • Sophomore Dylan Neach's two-run single keyed a three-run fourth for the Bobcats, who tied the game on Lough's sac fly in the fifth.
  • Cross scored the winning run on a passed ball with two out in the seventh before the Purple Knights went down in order in the home half.
