Dick Falkenbush '67 will join the Vermont Sports Hall of Fame on April 25 as part of its 13th induction class during a dinner and celebration at the Delta Marriott Burlington Hotel in South Burlington. The evening begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m. Ticket information is available at vermontsportshall.com. Proceeds go to Prevent Child Abuse Vermont, the designated charity of the Vermont Sports Hall of Fame.

Falkenbush graduated second in Saint Michael's men's basketball history with 1,431 career points in just three years and still holds marks for points (51) and field goals (21) in a game, and a tie for the free throws record (21). Falkenbush helped the Purple Knights finish fourth in the nation his sophomore year before returning to the Sweet 16 as a senior. An All-America selection as both a junior and senior, he was selected in the 10th round of the 1967 NBA Draft by the Saint Louis Hawks. Falkenbush eventually went into high school teaching four decades and coaching for 35 years. He was the first varsity boys' basketball head coach at Colchester High School and later won 276 games in 21 seasons at Burlington High School, capturing the 1995-96 Division I title. He is one of the founders and organizers of Mini-Metro Basketball, one of Northern Vermont's top youth basketball development leagues.

Falkenbush joins such Saint Michael's representatives as George "Doc" Jacobs, Leo Papineau, Class of 1924, Edward P. Markey '51, Bernie Cieplicki '57 and Rich Tarrant '65 in the Vermont Sports Hall of Fame. Former women's basketball head coach Jennifer Niebling was enshrined due in large part to her college basketball career at the University of Vermont, Jim McCaffrey played two years of basketball at Saint Michael's before finishing college at the College of the Holy Cross, and Lou DiMasi III was a long-time men's golf coach at the College who put together an outstanding ice hockey career at Norwich University.

Fresh off of his stint as an assistant coach for the gold medal-winning 2026 U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team, men's ice hockey alumnus Brent Hill '04 was named head scout for the U.S. Women's National Team program late last month. According to USA Hockey, Hill will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and recruiting potential players for the various levels on the U.S. Women's National Team, including the Olympics, Women's World Championship, Select Series, and Under-18 Women's World Championship.

Hill spent the past five seasons as an assistant coach with the Quinnipiac University women's ice hockey team, working with forwards and the power-play unit. The Bobcats were 132-52-11 with three NCAA Tournaments in that time, finishing this year seventh in the final U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) Division I national poll. Hill also helped the U.S. Women's National Team take gold at world championships in 2023 and 2025 and silver in 2024 as an assistant coach. He has served on the United States-Canada Rivalry Series coaching staff since 2023.

A native of Saint Albert, Alberta, Hill posted 44 points in 86 games as a Purple Knight defenseman, helping the squad win postseason crowns each of his final three seasons, including claiming the inaugural Northeast 10 Conference Championship in 2003-04, when Hill was the team's lone captain. He was twice named all-conference and, in 2004, earned the College's Victor V. LeMieux '35 Award, which honors loyalty and leadership.

Shelagh Fluharty '21, an alumna of the field hockey and women's lacrosse programs, is a charity bib runner in the upcoming 130th Boston Marathon on April 20, already reaching her $12,000 fundraising goal to support the Joe Andruzzi Foundation (JAF). The JAF provides financial and emotional assistance to cancer patients and their families in the name of Andruzzi, a three-time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots who himself fought a successful battle with cancer two decades ago. Fluharty's involvement with the JAF ties back into her professional life as a senior associate scientist in biology focusing on cancer search at biotech company Parabilis Medicines. She was recently accepted into the University of Utah's Molecular Biology PhD program. Despite surpassing her fundraising target, Fluharty is still accepting donations for JAF here.

Fluharty was an assistant captain of the field hockey team as a junior before serving as captain senior year, when the season was wiped out due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, she joined the women's lacrosse team for the spring of her senior year, making an impact in nine games out of the midfield. Fluharty was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Senior Team in her final year, finishing with 18 points in 52 career games. During the Department of Athletics' annual Block 'M' Awards banquet in 2021, she earned the Victor V. LeMieux '35 Award, recognizing senior student-athletes who display outstanding traits of loyalty and leadership.
