Kolifrath's Walk-Off Homer Keys Baseball's Sweep to Tie School Record for Wins

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Graduate student Max Kolifrath (Millbury, Mass./Millbury) delivered a two-run, walk-off home run in the opener en route to the Saint Michael's College baseball team sweeping Assumption University, 5-3 in seven innings and 10-3, in a Northeast 10 Conference doubleheader on Saturday at Doc Jacobs Field. The Purple Knights tied a 27-year-old school record with 17 victories this spring.

DOUBLEHEADER FACTS
  • Kolifrath broke two school records on Saturday. Heading into his final at bat in the opener, he trailed Sean Finnell's '94 program mark for career RBI (87) by one before tying and breaking it on his home run. Kolifrath ended the doubleheader with 89 RBI. He was also hit by a pitch in game one, the 26th of his career, breaking a tie with Steven Auger '17 atop the program's all-time list. Already the program's home run king, Kolifrath launched his 20th career dinger as his walk-off shot.
  • Gilboy swatted a tying RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning of the opener for his 32nd RBI of the season, matching Finnell's 32-year-old program record, before walking with the bases loaded in the nightcap for his 33rd RBI of the season. Gilboy extended his mark to 34 by day's end.
  • Senior Keegan Burke (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) fanned six over eight innings of work in game two, moving into a tie for third place in program history with 153 career strikeouts. He matched Andrew Kelley '13 while passing Thomas Ryan, Class of 1910 (149) and Edward Connally, Class of 1929 (150).
  • The Purple Knights are 8-1 at home this season, their best showing since going 10-5 in 2009.
