Gilboy and Kolifrath Homer, Baseball Downs Franklin Pierce, 11-6

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Graduate student Max Kolifrath (Millbury, Mass./Millbury) and junior Richard Gilboy (South Portland, Maine/South Portland) both homered and combined for five extra-base hits and eight RBI as the Saint Michael's College baseball team downed Franklin Pierce University, 11-6, on Wednesday during Northeast 10 Conference action on Doc Jacobs Field.

GAME FACTS
  • The Purple Knights defeated the Ravens for the first time since March 30, 2019, and at home for the first time since May 3, 2012.
  • Saint Michael's is off to its eighth 5-0 start at home in 114 years of existence, joining the 1906 (8-0), 1907 (6-0), 1970 (5-0), 1972 (5-0), 1999 (9-0), 2003 (6-0) and 2009 (5-0) squads. However, this is the Purple and Gold's first 5-0 home start in 24 seasons as an NE10 member.
  • Senior Keegan Burke (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) fanned nine to vault into seventh in program history in career strikeouts (143), passing Ed Dower, Class of 1910 (142), Jared Duquette '24 (138), Alan Colville '33 (137), Jean Dubuc, HS Class of 1906 (135) and Scott Racicot '72 (135).

THE ACTION
  • Saint Michael's scored the first seven runs by the fourth inning, with Weber knocking a two-out, two-run single in the second, Gilboy swatting an opposite-field two-run homer in the third, and Cavossa driving in a run on a fielder's choice in the fourth before Gilboy slugged a two-out, two-run double to center field.
  • The Ravens scored single runs on a sac fly in the fifth and double play in the sixth.
  • The Purple Knights added three runs in the sixth, when Gilboy dumped an opposite-field RBI double and scored on Kolifrath's two-run blast to left field that made it 10-2.
  • Franklin Pierce scored four of the next five runs, around Kolifrath's RBI double in the eight, with Starr striking the big blow, a two-run homer in the ninth. Guzman retired the final two batters.
