WORCESTER, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team was trimmed by New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) preseason favorite Assumption University, 2-1, on Friday during both teams' season openers in the Worcester Ice Center.

• In her first appearance since Feb. 28, 2025, after losing last season to injury, DeMarinis made the third-most saves in program history.

THE ACTION

• With 11:59 gone in the opening period, Bendickson snuck behind the defense and beat Fournier over her far shoulder to put the Purple Knights in front. Carpenter set up the play with a pass off the boards that Boychuk knocked ahead in neutral ice.
• Assumption found the equalizer at 5:14 of the second frame during a power play, as DeMarinis waffled down first-year Megan Tremblay's initial shot before Forker put home the rebound.
• Whitesell redirected sophomore Natalie Joiner's pass out of the left corner from near the left post at 7:45 of the third period for what stood as the winner.
• Senior Maddie Quinn's (Chicago, Ill./Team Illinois AAA) shot from the right point was knocked down by Fournier at 14:46 before the netminder denied Richter's second effort from in close.
• DeMarinis was pulled with 1:10 remaining, but neither team took a shot in the final 2:33.
