GAME FACTS
  • In just his second college start, Uecker earned his first career victory.
  • The Purple Knights lead the all-time series, 5-2, with the last four meetings all decided by a single goal.
  • Jean, already the winningest head coach in program history, became the 15th head coach in College history with at least 100 victories leading one program, and the first soccer coach to reach triple digits. He owns more than 200 wins in his college coaching career between Saint Michael's, Duquesne University and Champlain College.
  • The Redhawks claimed a 16-13 edge in shots, while both teams took seven corner kicks.
THE ACTION
  • Uecker kept the teams level in the sixth minute, diving to his left to deny senior Ewan O'Dwyer-Hall's shot from the top of the box.
  • Espinosa countered with a diving stop of his own in the ninth minute, batting away senior Marshall Butler's (Middletown, Conn./Middletown) one-touch ticketed for the lower left corner off of Hendrie's cross.
  • On the ensuing corner kick, Weldon ran on to senior Evan Richardson's (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) service and headed home his second goal of the season with 9:27 gone.
  • Weldon kept the Purple Knights in front by heading away Murphy's header sent toward the upper left corner during the 25th minute.
  • Murphy leveled the score in the 42nd minute, burying a penalty kick after being tackled in the box.
  • The Purple Knights went ahead to stay in the 51st minute. Hendrie served a corner kick that deflected off of a defender before Zurria touched off for Brannigan, who ran onto the ball in the box and slipped a shot inside the left post.
  • Sophomore Mustafa Alshadeedi headed a tying bid off of the crossbar from in close during the 69th minute, and the Purple Knights quickly countered at the other end. Zurria gained possession in the midfield before slipping a through ball through two Redhawk defenders, leading Hendrie alone on goal. After drawing Espinosa from his net, Hendrie finished right-footed on a vacated cage at 70:37.
  • Uecker fell to cover Alshadeedi's shot in the 88th minute to keep it a two-goal game, but Horan hit the upper left corner on a free kick from just outside the box with 1:16 left in regulation.
  • In a frenzied final sequence in the closing seconds, the Redhawks pulled all 11 players into the attacking area, but Uecker made a final save of junior Conor Livingstone with 10 ticks remaining.
NEXT SAINT MICHAEL'S GAME
