THE ACTION

• LaFrenier's kill had the Purple Knights up 10-9 in the opening set before Stanford's kill in a 4-0 run put the Panthers ahead for good. Saint Michael's was down only 24-22 on sophomore Lillie King's (Livermore, Calif./Carondelet) kill before a service error handed Middlebury the clinching point.
• After yielding the first three points in set two, the Purple and Gold went ahead, 12-11, on Tower's ace and was still in front, 19-17, on a Tower kill. However, Middlebury scored the final eight points, keyed by a trio of dual blocks by seniors Molly Harrison and Gabby Pribisich.
• In set No. 3, the visitors broke a 7-7 tie with a 7-1 run and never again led by fewer than five points.
